Eat. Swim. Sleep at Puerto Galera

The 2014 Manila summer is hot, hot, hot! To escape the scorching heat, the family decided to go with a dear friend, Anna May Dalisay and her family  for a quick trip back to their hometown in Puerto Galera, Mindoro.

Puerto Galera is a summer paradise. Boasting of fresh sea air, breezy weather and clean beaches, the island is highly recommended for chillin’ and relaxin’.  Going to Galera is relatively easy for us.  The family drove from Manila at 4am to Batangas port (1.5 hours max travel time without traffic). From Batangas port, we rode the 630am Minolo ferry to the island (Ferry ride cost per adult is P230 and half price for children. Be prepared to pay P20 per person for port fee).  From the Galera port (Visitors will pay P50/adult as Environmental fee), the resort jeep picked us up to go straight to Tamaraw Resort.

Tamaraw Resort  is a no-frills resort. It has rooms big enough for a family of four (2 double beds each with pull-out beds), apartments that has 2 rooms for big groups and cottages. All rooms have aircon, hot water and balconies/windows facing the ocean. The only drawback is the food. If you are a foodie, the resort serves normal, regular unexciting dishes. Service is so slow, it made us weep. Good thing the servers and staff are so friendly, it made us less grumble less 🙂

As I have boys with fins and tails, Joaquin and Javier loves the resort. One look at the place and they decided swimming in both pool and the beach all day long is enough to make them happy – toss in kayaking, collecting beautiful rocks and burying themselves in the sand. Thankfully, we managed to drag them out of the water to check out White Beach and a trip to Tamaraw Falls.

Over-all, the Galera vacation made us thankful for family time, good friends, relaxing massage and quiet moments.

We will be back!
